Get It?

Nothing is more important around here than a good Halloween costume. But we always forget and are last minute and come up with nothing good. So internet buddies – I need your help! Will anyone know who I am if this is my costume?

That is the ‘sexy’ version I’d try to make, this is the where she’s from if you’re stumped:

Here is a link to all you need to know about the show.

I totally used to love this show when I was a kid, and had the computer games too! Remember the nerdy singing guys, Rockapella?

Remember how cute the kids were, in their little jackets?

I think it’s funny since we move all around – so, where in the world am I, and it’s doable, proof:

And her last name is Sandiego. That’s funny, right?

Tell me what you think!

Recovery

Tuesday after Labor Day I got up and ran some errands in an effort to look productive after a super loooong weekend.

I stopped at the bank around noon and the teller looks at me (I thought I looked okay) and is all “How’s the recovery going?”

I had no idea what he was talking about, then remembered it was a long fuzzy weekend. And we laughed and talked about what we did and I got over my initial shock of thinking I looked like I had a botched nose job or something.

MK had scuba all weekend with MB, so Saturday I got JC (MB’s girl) and we did a little shopping, had a little lunch, and  I dropped her off with her family. There was another innertube event, this time christened “Floatopia”, and it was right out side my place, so I walked down to the water just to check it out – and ended up seeing my friends right away and hanging out for a bit. It was bigger and crazier but not any better or worse than last time (if you still haven’t seen the video it’s in the comments here). Sunday I went to a giant boat party all day with MR then came home for a big huge dinner and a movie.

Monday MK went sailing so I threw a party without him. Not really, but some neighbors were playing volleyball and so MR CH JC and MB came over and much bay style beach drinking volleyball playing fun was had. Almost too much fun – so we went to MB’s and made a big dinner and played Rock Band until we couldn’t see straight. The whole weekend did leave me totally wiped out and after recalling only half of it I thought the bank guy was funny – he had to get back to real life – at least I got to sleep in!

Airports

Ever since being totally hooked on the move Love Actually, I am a big fan of airports. Happy or sad, they are places filled with emotional reunions and tearful goodbyes. DW was late yesterday and MK and I sat coffee in hand and watched the men anxiously waiting with bouquets in their hands. It makes me feel all gooey on the inside.

San Diego, from what I understand, is the Number One tourist destination/vacation travel spot for the 4th of July holiday. The airport was certainly busy. But I don’t mind the parking and running in, I enjoy the people watching. I haven’t traveled in a little while (well, at least for us) and got all nostalgic thinking about my last few trips, happy and sad, to see my friends in Austin and my family back East.

What is an airport to you? A big pain in the butt to have to deal with to get somewhere or a unique place to see life?

A Great Thanksgiving

You read it right, and I’m not crazy. You see, we came to a fun decision today in the SGS household. MK’s favorite holiday meal is pretty much always a carb filled Thanksgiving – turkey, potatoes, stuffing, rolls. We don’t vary it. So today at our Thanksgiving style Easter dinner, we realized Easter has a lot to do with Thanksgiving – and that we would love to give thanks for all our blessings all the time.

We have so much to be thankful for, Thanksgiving is going to be more frequent around here. We’re going to have a big sit down dinner focused on thankfulness once a month. It might be the only time I’m allowed all those goodies! 🙂

How hilarious and cool will we be if we have kids? “Mom, can I go to the SGS house this week for dinner?” “Why?” “It’s Thanksgiving.” “No, it’s June.” “They have Thanksgiving once a month!”

But it’s not about being cool, or the food, I promise. It’s a little more making sure we connect. With just the two of us, and both of us trying to not be all about food all the time, dinners have gotten smaller, less formal, and more just to refuel. We think a little more ceremony will be fun.

SomeGoSoftly hopes you all had an amazing Easter and joy filled weekend!

Happy April Fools’ Day

Last year, I told my parents we were pregnant for April Fools’ Day. And got them. GOOD. It was funnier since I couldn’t stop laughing and had maybe 3 glasses of wine in me, and they STILL fell for it. Even worse, still no grandbabies! It’s the prank that keeps on pranking.

So of course we couldn’t think of anything to top that. MK was being a brat and not going along with my Facebook divorce. (Not one friend had anything silly on their site this morning…)

Instead of trying to pull something on you here, I’ve decided to supply you with some of the best pranks I found today. Isn’t it crazy that the internet is practically made to put fake stuff all over…? 😉

Keep in mind some of these links will only work today:

Here’s a giant list I found of all the sites with pranks: April Fools’ Day on the web.

Birthday, Week One

Did you think I was kidding? Oh, no friends. When you turn this unexciting of an age and have nothing going on, you need to make your own party. This is a marathon. So my birthday (which was Monday) started last Thursday. I went shopping. At the outlets. And bought stuff. Shoes, a coat, a Coach purse (which I realized I had no need for and returned) and earrings and a headband. Really thrilling stuff. But it was fun just to be out. TB, current love of my life, took me out for Chinese. This will be a tradition.

Friday I skied with MK. It was a blast. I think this was when I figured it out. We came home and got ready for dinner, which we had at the Deer Valley Seafood Buffet, courtesy of my loving mommy. Lest Buffet sound cheesy, make no mistake, I enjoyed more delicious five star cuisine than the previous “X” years of my life. 😉 And, dude, TB (reason for love-of-life status) picked out the most amazing present in the world for me, wait until you see it.

We last minute just had to run out for some drinks, TB (again, love of my life) calling out for shots. Yeehaw. We met some silly LA’ers and had a giant phony one-upping contest. Giggles and more shots. Celebrity hunting.

We totally got catcalled - which is awesome even if it's not your birthday!

We totally got catcalled - which is awesome even if it's not your birthday!

I had the funniest time the next morning – Saturday- feeling faintly hungover but somehow still on skis with TB. We were a sight. We also got to see (finally) someone famous here for Sundance. Kira fell right in front of me, and Kevin Bacon had to help her up. It kinda blew her cover. Sunday we skied with Bob. I had to show off. I totally came home and fell in to a coma. We went out for pizza (last junk food of the year…) at a new fantastic restaurant that we all loved. Thanks J!

Monday was this thing called my actual birthday. SKI BIRTHDAYS RULE! My legs were wiped out from the past two awesome days, but beer helped. TB and I were “first beer” at Empire Lodge. Quality. Then we went for round two at Silver Lake. By then, we were golden. I let go of trying to ‘do it right’ and just had fun. My mom AND DAD (MOSTLY DAD) sent me some beautiful flowers (MK got me some you can see in the background too):

MK took me out for drinks and made me a cake. We really had a great night. Yesterday was all about running errands and cleaning – KD And JC get here today! Let Week Two festivities begin!

Best Birthdays

Birthdays, in my opinion, are usually as good as you make them. I’ve had some really amazing ones, from the giant party my roommate threw me (ages and dates withheld on that one) to the last minute giant dinner party some really great people showed up for in Austin a few years ago. It’s always fun to get to throw out a few demands – people get to humor you with all they might normally not do in an effort to please you. I love skipping presents in lieu of events.

MK is biting the bullet this year and taking me again out for a favorite pastime – sitting with friends drinking great wine, eating good overpriced food. He takes no joy in a long drawn out fancy pants sit down dinner. We were going to go for Chinese, last year I demanded that be an annual tradition. We changed our minds and decided to hit the amazing seafood restaurant at Deer Valley this weekend. I can’t wait. I’m not eating for a few days to prepare. After that I’ve got company coming in (three different trips) which include other birthday celebrations. It’s going to be good, I have no doubts.

Getting older certainly doesn’t always feel fun. Just try to make the most of it.

What was your best birthday ever?

That Time Again

So it’s that time of year, when the blogging is slim, the holidays are abounding or whatever it is they do to you, and we’re planning on starting over fresh.

Our little plan kind of backfired. We wanted to wait until after Christmas and splurge on some things for each other. Nothing we really wanted was even on sale, and there’s actually not much we really want, or need. So far I’ve spent 7$, on some eye shadow. We’ve been down in our bat cave playing the new Xbox 360 MK got himself for his gift. That is when we’re not skiing. Skiing Christmas Eve Eve was a blast, and the day after Christmas TB’s family got to watch us come down the most challenging runs I’ve done yet. Living at the mountain instead of visiting really does do wonders.

My Christmas Eve this year was similar to last year in only one regard: fajitas. TB invited us over and we hung out relaxed style as the snow storm began. Christmas day we opened the great gifts MIL had sent, watched parades and ate junk food. The rest of the week we skied, as I mentioned, and got to hang out with the TB family. I even got my first (of many to come…) Cranium night.

The end of a year is always a fun and unique time with us, but I always get a little lonely even though I got to visit my family this year. So it was extra special to steal a little TB family love. Now the tree is down, the tourists are everywhere, and we’re looking forward to another storm and some more good times.

I’ve got my cousin JM coming, then WB, KD, JC, NN, ND and co., SH, JM, A and NH, and maybe even a SF. So the fun for us is just getting started. These folks should keep me busy. So the break in excitement is good, I’m going to be cooking and cleaning until March. And there’s nothing that could make me happier! 🙂

I’m going on auto post for a few days, see you here next year!
