When I Dip You Dip We Dip

So the real point of the drive was, of course, to get to Vegas. It wasn’t that bad of a drive, especially for me since I could sleep. Apparently MK tells me it’s harder when you have to actually do the driving. Getting in to Nevada was cool, the casinos start as soon as they are allowed. Border pics:

And we saw a giant wreck:

Vegas was the awesomest ever (I say that every time, I know). We stayed at the new Planet Hollywood, which was fine even though I would not recommend it. We kept getting in free no waiting in line to clubs at night (must be MK’s dimples) and got to check out a bunch of new bars. We slept most of the day after seeing the sun come up. We upped Red Bull stock considerably. SoCal is officially too small when you see people you know IN VEGAS, but that was cool too.

Sunday we stayed at the Hard Rock. There is nothing in that hotel that is remotely cool, especially since it’s under construction. Here’s one you might not know: the light fixtures have cymbals over them. Real ones. People bang on them NO MATTER WHAT TIME IT IS. Who’s the idiot that came up with that? Fortunately I passed out and didn’t have to hear it. The bathroom was like a Motel 6, it was so awful.

The only reason we submitted to this torture was all the nonsense we heard about REHAB, the pool party Sundays. So we get down there and walk right in. The line for non hotel guests is, from what we hear, over 2 hours long by noon, and also (by rumor) more expensive than just paying for the room sometimes. So you stay in the junky room, and skip the line.

I’m thinking it’s like a lounge type thing. NOPE. It’s a wild super rock your face off see and be seen party the likes of which I’ve never seen. It made MTV Spring Break look like a snooze fest. They were filming a movie. There were beds in the sand, and cabanas everywhere. There were people freaking making it rain (click for explanation) over the pool. What??? The DJs were the best of the best. Everyone was prancing and dancing and drinking and partying like mad. It was awesome. Really, really awesome.

Palm Springs

Before the company (I’m screwing up already) was the road trip. We drove to Palm Springs to see what was going on there in the hot hot heat. It’s hot.

We ate some really good food and met the people that have been keeping UR company for ages. We saw a show. We slept in the most comfortable bed in the nicest hotel ever. We did the tram. We drove through the ritzy neighborhood. We saw that guy that got fired from that show. It was a quick stop but all we needed to see what Palm Springs was like. During tourist season I bet it’s a trip, but I like going when things aren’t such a zoo (like our home right now).

Here’s a bunch of not that impressive photos.

San Diego County Fair

I’m only a month late telling you about my day at the fair. It’s held at the Del Mar Racetrack grounds. We got to park for free and ride on the top of an open double decker bus. I beat MK at that game where you roll the balls and make the horse move. I won a turtle. He beat me at Skeeball and won a duck. It was sheer excitement. I got to enjoy a roast beef sandwich and an Orange Julius. I taught MK the fair rules I learned from my Dad: Animals first. Then food. Then games. Then rides. So we got to see all the chickens, and the pig race. I gave serious thought to the idea of a pot-bellied pig as a viable dog alternative.

Here’s the link to the silly pictures.

Forever Ago

Way way back in the day there were all these things going on. I wasn’t able to tell you about all of them because of one man who was holding the photographic evidence of all the fun we’ve been having hostage. Without further ado:

  • Too many pictures of our big day sail. Really, I’m sorry – I was to lazy to pick the best ones. Make sure you read the captions so you know what you’re seeing.
  • I mentioned here what a party we had in LA. We didn’t have the camera much, and these pictures from the LA Museum of Art are probably all illegal, so don’t tell anyone.
  • We spent a day inland at the San Diego Zoo’s affiliated Wild Animal Park. It was too much fun, I think it’s even better than the zoo. Here are those pictures. Unfortunately the camera died before we were done, but we did at least get a picture of the lady, who seriously said the most insane things to herself/at us. “Don’t mess with Sicilians or bikers” “Watch that Scott Baio now” etc. We had to dodge her a bunch, she was on the same course as us. I have no idea what that was all about. I guess crazy ladies go to zoos too.
  • Wherein I tell you how little I know about golf by the captions of “golfer” under pictures of surely famous people I’m supposed to know about at the US Open. Oh well.
  • I also went to Vegas but my pictures are terrible. You’ll just have to believe me that it ruled.

Well, it takes a lot of effort to put all these little links in, so I’m expecting you to peruse and comment and enjoy and appreciate.

Ambitious Driver

California flew by us. We had to find a home. We did stop, of course, at various parts of the Redwood National Forest. It was out of season, but I have to tell you that even IN season, I don’t think that the park was even close to anything we saw in New Zealand. It didn’t seem very well organized. The signage was more about who donated money to preserve the trees than you learning anything. Boo.

The best part was the Avenue of Giants. Where you just drive surrounded by the giant tress. I also thoroughly enjoyed driving our car through a tree. Twice. My car enjoyed it too. It told me. It was nervous because it barely fit, but was excited once it was all over. Right.

Here are those pictures.

Martinis And Corn Mazes

What do you do with your extra special, last visitor? Why, the best stuff ever, of course. ND got to see all the staples: the library, Shorty’s, the Locks, and the city. But he also got a 7 mile walk through the parks and waterfront. He also got us up the Columbia Tower free. We got to go hunting fish and views, be nearly hit by a train, nearly crash a wedding, and all these fun new things. We had drinks at Tini Bigs and Hula Hula, and saw the Red Bull soapbox races from the comfort of a dry indoor table with MW and some Ohio State fans that let us know UT might’ve won had we been elsewhere (not sorry I missed that).

You might notice the pictures are fantastic, we put ND in charge. We ate well, drank better, and kept moving, the whole weekend. And yes, we literally found and paid money to wander through a giant corn maze. You only live once people.

Here are the pictures!

Western Washington Weekend

Last weekend MK took me on a great big drive from Seattle up into the Olympics. It was beautiful. The weather wasn’t great but the rain held off during the day and we were able to do some really great hikes. We stopped first at Lake Crescent, where FDR stayed when he made it a National Park. We did a short hike to the Marymere Falls.

We saw the Hoh Rain Forest, one of the few true temperate rain forests in the world.

wet.jpg

We hiked the famous Hall of Mosses Trail and the Spruce Nature Trail. There were just incredible trees and plant life everywhere. We had stopped at Rialto Beach but it was very wet and foggy – there’s a couple pictures of it, the black sand/rock was neat. We saw some sort of seal there…

We spent the night in fabulous Forks, at the motel. That in itself was an adventure…but it was a ‘quaint’ little town. The next day we drove out to the coast and started to really see some more beach. The second day was much clearer. Each beach is named something silly- most memorable were “Beach 1” through “Beach 4”. We made a ton of stops at each little place and made little walks to the water. It was beautiful everywhere.

Our last little hikes on the way out were to see the largest Cedar and Spruce trees in the WORLD!!! (or something). On our way back, we stopped in Olympia to say we’ve seen the capitol. I understand why no one lives there… *yawn*.

Here are the (obnoxiously too many) pictures.

And here’s my super high end map of our journey:

Random Photos

Since there are so many things that I’ve done this week and want to share with you, I started with the easiest – the individual pictures. We spend most of the first of NN’s day in Seattle doing the ‘touristy’ stuff.

Here’s my favorite that I’ve ever taken at the Fremont Troll:

And here’s a good one of the Pike’s Place Fish Mongers:

And a wind surfer over at Alki Beach:

As usual, these will get bigger if you click on them!

Viva Mexico

It always takes a week for me to get around to my travels, mainly trying to bug MK to get the pictures to me, since he is in the habit of hiding the camera cords. It rained and stormed almost every night we were there, which was great, as it made the days clear and cool, with just enough cloud cover to relax under, and a nice breeze to keep the heat and humidity at bay.
I needed this trip. It was great family time with MK’s step mom, dad, brother, brother’s gf (Potential Sister In Law?) and little step sister. They are such a fun bunch, and any time we spend together is for learning and laughing, penucle and partying.

We had great meals every day and night, and played ping pong, tennis, shuffleboard, and volleyball. One of my favorite things was painting with KK, and the place glazed and fired the things we made, for the perfect self made souvenir. Check out my little jar:

Looks professional, doesn’t it? I had a little help.
Our place was the top floor penthouse with a great view, a private hot tub, grill, and chairs and tables. Our room was huge. There were four bedrooms and a giant lower level. You can see the marble floors and staircase in the pictures. We traveled into the town and down the beach, and even to the Mazatlan Aquarium, which was interesting.

The San Juan Island Trip

Monday night I went out. Against my better half’s wishes. Teehee, I’ll be fine, it’s just girls night, I thought. But even though I refrained from going crazy, and MW had me home and ready for bed by 10, I had the hardest time in the universe getting up at 4am. But I made it, somehow, to the car, and promptly fell back asleep. An hour and a half later, I somehow made it from the car to the upper deck of the ferry, and fell asleep for another hour and a half. But MK took pictures. So you see more than I did.

Here are the pictures.

At 8am, we’re in a mausoleum. Huh?

THE MAUSOLEUM(scroll halfway down for story).

We drove a bit and stopped in Roche Harbor. I think it was beautiful, but since I was already in trouble for being so sleepy, my nose decided to bleed profusely for an hour just to please my husband. I missed a little of that too.

Real sign from the trip:

Moving right along, we go to various spots around the coast of the island to see the views, and hike. We stop at the viewpoint where you see orca whales. We’re too impatient. We called it good at ‘eagle’. MK got a great pic of it. We drove back through a few more stops and a lavender farm, which was all the island, and we headed back to port, Friday Harbor.

The little town was busy busy, most likely with tourists ready to go back where ever they came from. It was just that kind of an island. Done by two, ferry at six…unless you waited 4 hours for the whales.

The only thing to do in town, and the thing we were the only people NOT doing, is eat ice cream. We looked at the boats and wandered as slow as possible to kill time before the ferry, weaving in and out of stores and treacherous ice cream dangling children. And adults. I don’t even like ice cream and was really nervous that it was mandatory and we might receive a fine if we weren’t careful…

The ferry had cars pull in backwards, which I thought was neat since I couldn’t have done it.
