Twilight Concert Series

So I missed Modest Mouse last week and was a little sad. There was no way that I was going to miss this Thursday, the second Twilight Summer Concert at Pioneer Park. Many had heard that it was overcrowded and awful last week – but this week it was Girl Talk, for free, so I made MK set out super early.

We got to the HOT HOT HOT SLC by 5:30,and parked across the street from a main entrance. We looked around the park, ran and grabbed some food, and were back around 6:30. Plenty of time, plenty of room. Memory Tapes opened, there was a short break as the park continued to fill up, then Girl Talk took the stage.

He’s come a long way since the first SXSW show I saw. The fans still dance all over, but now there was a whole little act to go along with it. Speaking of long, he really needs to cut his hair. We took a bunch of silly pictures, including where we got home at 11 to get ready for the trip to the family reunion, and I STILL made vegetable lo mein extra water chestnuts by request as a thank you. MK does not like concerts. I’ve really got to find someone here who does.

As you can see in the pics, we stayed in the back-ish. Had a good view, but MK does not dance. So we were out of the fray, which we heard from one kid was like a mosh pit, and someone was running around bleeding. It was also an important day in my life because O.M.G. it was the first time I’ve ever felt O.L.D.

Here are all those photos.

Deer Valley Hike

Here’s some pictures from our first uphill hike. Me, with the short legs and fat lady breathing, taking up the rear. The three tall guys made me look bad.

Deer Valley is a beautiful place to hike. The dogs loved running through the brush and the views were amazing. I totally burned enough calories for the fajita wrap I had at lunch at Windy Ridge! Hiking – to me – is walking in less attractive clothing. But good company to chat with made it fun. What I wonder now is if the exact same hike is less interesting the next time around.

Lazy No More

The fact is that while you were all jonesing for blog posts and wondering what was going on in Park City, I was working on my fitness.

MK and I joined the gym here. My friend CL has made it her personal mission to not only show me all the classes and skills the gym has to offer, but to torture me inside and out, and probably revel in how much better shape she is than me.

Our 4th of July weekend was tons of fun but a bit mellow. I was feeling a little off so I was glad we didn’t go too crazy. We cooked out several times with the B’s and the McH’s, played with the kiddos, and went to the local parade (pictures coming soon).

But Tuesday we felt like it wasn’t over. I went to an early tough workout class, so I was exhausted at the end of the afternoon, and we napped. We went over to a friends for drinks. Wednesday CL and I went to the pool. Our gym has a POOL.

Thursday we went for a huge hike up Deer Valley, then to lunch, then to our neighbors for an impromptu party. The whole week has felt like the holiday never ended…and that’s my FAVORITE!

Between the workout class and the hike, I realized that I am in terrible shape. Back to the hardcore challenging my body. Back to work(out)!

Park City Summer

The past few days have been so great.

Friday I got to sit out in the sun and work on my tan. Yes, CH, waaay tanner than you now. MK went to the valley and I got to join MH and AM for their softball game. Unbelievably, it is LEGAL to DRINK in City Park in Park City. That kind of blew my mind. So we had a couple of beers. The games were fun to watch and the weather was just perfect. The team went out but MH and I decided to go eat some sushi at our favorite place, Hapa Grill.

Saturday was another gorgeous day and MK did yard work and we lounged around a bit. He organized his office, and I made the place spotless. We had dinner with the B’s and enjoyed a nice night in together.

Sunday I went to the Silly Market again, with MH and AM after a little shopping around town. Possibly most important is the perfect shade of lip color she picked out for me. Made my month. We stopped at Doolan’s for lunch and drinks, and got to go see AM’s new place and the softball team ended up there too, and we had a giant pool party! We relocated back to City Park and played sand volleyball, which was the best volleyball I’ve ever played, beating MK’s team every time. Figures I’d be good at volleyball here, not on the beach. I think the key was the “rotate like a robot” rule we came up with. Did wonders for the team. We had dinner at the Spur to round out the weekend.

Monday was a little slow starting after Sunday Funday, but we did run some errands and have a big dinner, and watch a movie.

Tuesday MK took me on a hike date at Deer Valley, then out to watch the World Cup and enjoy a burger and beer at O’Shucks. It’s been so much fun to enjoy the weather and friends we’ve made.

Buy Me A Bed And Breakfast

Last winter I got good (I think) at being a hostess. In fact, since we moved out of Austin, we’ve had over 50 visitors come and stay with us in various places at various times, I’ve lost count. And I really grew to love it. A full house is a happy house. Especially in Park City, in the winter, during the holidays.

Which is why I think I should buy you should buy me a bed and breakfast.

And it just so happens there is one for sale. On Main Street. I bet it’s easier to take care of strangers, I can accidentally become lazy around friends. And they can keep coming, at a reduced rate 😉

Here it is.

As you can see, it’s missing some things. Like walls. So long story short I need about 4 million dollars.

I could be good at this. Lots of fresh-baked muffins for breakfast to make the place smell yummy. After you hang some walls, I can remodel, paint, and decorate myself. Auction furniture to make each of the 10 rooms unique. MK can guide you around if you want a ski guide at any of the ski resorts. Dinner menus from all the great places on Main (of course I’d ask for specials). Want a night without the kids? Go to dinner and I’ll watch them for two hours and make them some pizza.

I can handle cleaning sheets. Make sure you’re cozy. Sell you stuff you may have forgotten (there is no drug store on Main, I could totally find a way to incorporate one for all the tourists…). Get you up for first chair. Host a happy hour after you’re home and showered. Have nice TVs and a decent DVD collection/Netflix hookup.

Convinced? I’ll let you know where to send the check.

Park Silly Market

Every Sunday in the spring and summer, Main Street hosts a little street fair with vendors and kids activities, food and shopping. The first Sunday also happened to be SB’s 4th birthday, and we got to go to the Market and celebrate her birthday with the family. She bought her own presents with a gift card and got a free fairy costume. It also happened to be about 40 outside. Brr. For the last three weeks, it’s been warm in the high 70s with one day in the week day that is ice cold.

The second Sunday was Father’s Day, and we got to join the B’s again, for lunch at Wasatch Brew Pub, a stroll down Main, and SB’s first pair of flip flops! We also had cake and wine after to celebrate TB’s birthday and BB’s first 2 kid Father’s Day. The B’s have a busy June!

Here’s a whole album of photos from the weekends. Turn around time is so much better when I’m taking the pictures!

Pictures! From My Droid!

The best thing so far about this phone is the quality of the photos it takes. They only come out bad if you’re not still (which is the case on many of these). I also am obsessed with the apps that change the color quality and type of photo the camera takes – since Tosh.0 taught me everything looks cooler through a fish-eye lens. Since it’s my phone, I have no excuse not getting this done sooner – other than I was also waiting to see what MK had on the cameras. But since we’re never going to see those, I spent the morning finding photos for you. Now I’m off to spend the afternoon ordering! tons! of! furniture! (FINALLY!)

The problem was figuring out how to get them off the phone. As a matter of fact, I’m so attached to this phone I’m hardly ever on my laptop anymore either. Took me long enough, since they are all nearly no longer relevant…

here’s a bunch of photo albums (@snapfish, so you might need to sign in. It’s free)!

First – pictures of the house from the winter until now.

Then – just a few pics of JB and I at Solitude. The trip was amazing but that’s one where MK has all the pics other than these, so I don’t even think I did a full blog post about it. We ran up and down Main St, skied all over, and shopped and decorated the house (that part I mentioned here). MB switched from snowboarder to skier amd MK taught JB to ski at the Canyons and Solitude. The snow was gerat and hanging with them is always awesome.

Also – pictures of SXSW 2010.

This album is a couple things with our friends in PC – a couple nights out, including the infamous Ten Pin Party, where MK got us kicked out of a BOWLING ALLEY for bowling the WHITE LIGHTNING, the weirdest band I’ve EVER seen (and I’ve seen some weird bands) and MH’s moving into her new condo party. This is by far the funnest craziest group of people in PC and I’m looking forward to many more parties and a few less blurry photos with them all.

And some random extras:

Last, but not least, we took technically four trips to Vegas in the last three weeks or so. Since these are just phone pics, I lumped them all together. One was to see some SD friends, one just us, one with our family for CH2’s 21st birthday, and then one just us again. Man I love it there. The album is entitled “VEGASES”.

Not Feeling It

Everyone thought we were crazy to buy a house in Utah, and we were a little defensive. We had to tell everyone we knew what we were getting in to. And we kinda thought we did – know what we were getting in to.

Since ski season has ended, it has rained, snowed, rained, and snowed. There are even ski resorts still open, but we packed up our gear when Deer Valley closed. And we figured a few trips and some housework would tide us over until in was so nice we’d want to run around on bikes and in shorts and flip flops. I’m sorry, because I really hate people that complain about the weather. Hate it. Hate when every Facebook update is how your weather is where ever you are. Or when you complain about the weather where you are.

But I’m starting to think that warm days are never going to come. We went to Vegas for some sun. And came back, and it snowed. Each trip for house stuff through the rain or snow makes us want to quit doing house stuff. The excitement of a cute cuddly new warm baby helped, but I have had enough snow.

I like sun. And warm weather. And May for me for the last ten years has meant bikinis. I tried to think this wouldn’t be a huge adjustment, but it is. I’m craving some warm outdoors!

Yes, Craig, I know. No I told you sos. All we need is some more vacation time, I hope!

If Peer Pressure Works

Living here for just the last week has made me realize something: If peer pressure works, every one of you will tell me you hate me this year. If peer pressure works, I might end up in spandex. If peer pressure works, I’ll be franchising a gym. If peer pressure works, I’ll have the butt of a biker, not of a Kardashian. If peer pressure works…

There wasn’t even a break. All the locals that I’ve been scoping out and recognizing amidst tourists all winter are basically all that are left now. You can’t miss them. They didn’t take a break. The ski resorts closed Sunday, and they went home Sunday night and washed and packed their ski gear. Then they broke out the road bikes, the mountain bikes, the running gear, the hiking poles.

*blink*.

I feel like I spent a long successful winter flying down runs, and even and extra tough last week plowing through powder, to enjoy some lying around in the warm weather. But no. THERE’S NO BREAK IN PARK CITY!

I am pretty happy about it, really. We tried the Globo Gym here, then the more casual Joe’s Gym. We tried walking around outside. We will try to take advantage of all the lessons and learning from friends about spring sports and athletics there is to try. I’m only to happy to run my errands in work out clothes, once I’m no longer the FATTEST person in the entire city, even though I’m losing weight. I’ll love getting out and doing things with people. I’ll love the adventures. But really, really, I’ll be easy to spot amidst these crazies, I’ll still be taking a break.

No Foolin’

Today was the least exciting April Fools’ Day ever! I think my brother tried to make a joke on his FB page, and that was about it. MK went to a car auction that was a bust and took all day.

In boring house news, we have a nice floor where a hole used to be in our master bedroom, and MK will be starting on the walls this week.

In fun event news, we went to a parade and saw all the Olympic athletes with Park City ties the other night…

here’s a ton of pictures! I took these on my phone and am pretty impressed with the quality.
