Not sure if you are as lucky as I am, but my mother is certainly my best friend. She and I talk nearly every day, which Dad and MK love as they pay the phone bills. I had so much fun growing up because of her (and my dad but that’s for June). It’s interesting to grow up and learn more about life and really start to see how important family is and how much more appreciative you become. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there – I think I know one beside my own…

The Seattle based Run.com is a neat site where you can pick your city, plan your route, and share with others. I’ve already done some that were listed for Seattle!

I’ll Have You Know
Rosie shamelessly plugged her Blog Thursday on The View. She must have heard somegosoftly talking about her. She mentioned the Blogger’s Choice Awards, which you may have noticed hanging out in my right column over there. She’s nominated for Best Celebrity Blogger. I went and read it. Well, clicked through a couple pages. If you’re not going to, it’s home movies and what I think she would call ‘free verse’. It reminded me there are so many different kinds of blogs out there, journals and stories, rants and raves.
I have not mentioned to you a vote for me request, my particular intention was just to draw new people over here, internet readers and blog fans, considering I know my main following are not blog-inclined – thanks for the love of course. I’ll even admit to you I nominated myself, in addition of course to Snippy and Cryptic Philosopher. But, I will suggest you go peruse if you have nothing better to do, there are categories and rankings that may help you stumble upon something you love.

New Books
It’s been far too long since I read, well, anything, and we finally made it back to the library for me to score some more books. We are still out running all around, only difference is I can read in the car. I’m reading Lisa Glatt now and have some Updike as well to look forward to. It was pretty funny – before I was a ‘confirmed’ friend of the library, I was allowed 5 books at a time, but now that they verified my address, I get 100. Really. People here must like to read. Also, I learned today that when you return the books, they go on a little conveyor like luggage at an airport, and they typically only lose a paperback once every three months. Sacrifice for progress, little buddy. 🙂
Keep an eye on the page I list novels I’ve read on and side bar for what I’m reading! I went ahead and borrowed books on my Amazon wish list since I haven’t gotten any presents in the mail lately…MK’s already let me know now I don’t NEED any presents, I have a library card.

Blame The Weather
Or the husband, or the exploring, or the city, or the internet…
I miss you guys. I haven’t even been able to barely turn on the computer, I admit it. I haven’t been perusing, exploring, driveling, okay, or anything on the computer lately. Here’s my formal apology for all those lazy posts, to all of you calling asking “What has been going ON!?!?!” I haven’t even checked email (although now that I have, I have plans for tonight!) lately. It’s too sunny, too beautiful, too fun to walk around, too much to do! MK has been bogarting the internet, but is finally hooking up the wifi as I type. Small victory.
We have been gallivanting all over. We played poker, went out to dinner, and are currently in the midst of the Seattle Maritime Festival, which began yesterday with the Seattle Waterfront Neighborhood Chowder Cook Off. For 5 dollars, we get chowder from 20 restaurants all weekend to taste and vote for our favorite. There will also be boating and free tours of the aquarium and harbor. Yipee!
I’ve been keeping up my running, been able to add weights also (it’s sunny from 5am to 9pm, I’m getting in two workouts most days) and in addition to all that MK and I walk everywhere. The only small catch is all this seafood. I’m fairly certain I’d weigh 12 lbs. if I wasn’t trying to scarf down all the deliciousness that surrounds me everywhere I look. We grilled prawns on the roof again the other night, and some kabobs. It doesn’t seem to get any better than this. The waterfront run is so beautiful, I have to say I think it beats Town Lake in Austin. We saw a seal while we were running yesterday. How many of you have had that happen?;)
I forgot to share the great story of the arm wrestling debacle, wherein the dishwasher of the pizza restaurant made $65 or so beating a friend, here’s the proof (I guess we took pictures after all):
I haven’t done the customary, “By the way, I have a blog and your picture is subject to publication at any time” disclaimer, so let’s hope everyone’s cool…
And, in closing, for now, I’d like to let you know that I’ll be back soon(er).

Visual Learner
There are tons of work out magazines around my place. I always think that I will learn some new moves from them. But there’s one small problem. I don’t get it. There’s a big page of instructions with pictures and words, and I read, and reread, and read out loud, and try to imitate. I can never make sense out of what they are trying to do. I end up pulling something and throwing the magazine and pulling something else doing that, it’s not pretty.
Well, I sure like the show Work Out. After seeing last week’s episode, I checked out the website and the blogs and forums for the show, and found videos that they’ve posted of many of these moves that I can’t make sense out of. The internet has done it again.
Here’s the link to the videos if you’re interested. Sometimes they take a little while to load. Of course, you can always search on YouTube too, but those results were slightly more questionable. I thought it was pretty helpful. Or, if you’re good with magazines, let me know. You can have mine.
Too Cool For Pictures
…So you’ll just have to take my word for it. We went out for very yummy pizza Friday night with a new group of friends, and then to a bar called the Pig ‘N Whistle. Saturday we walked to the Art Museum. They wouldn’t allow any pictures inside, but it was great. I have nothing to compare it to, not having been before this remodel and grand reopening, but everyone seemed to enjoy it. Most people that I know would hate to be there when it was that crowded. I have to tell you, I think I preferred it. I liked to see everyone else’s reactions to the art and how it differed from mine. There were some great pieces – Frida, Kandinsky, Warhol, Rodin, Pollock, and other great artists.
After all that excitement, we were starving. We ate at a great wine bar called Purple right by the museum. We did a little shopping and before we knew it, it was 10pm and we’d missed our chance to go to a bar for Cinco de Mayo. So we skipped that.
Sunday we went to Fremont after a big pancake breakfast (I made!) and walked through their Street Festival, one of those things where people sell handmade jewelry and that sort of stuff. We drove to Tulalip and shopped at the Seattle Outlet Mall. It was crap that MK got a ski coat for $50 and Lucky jeans for $30. I got a tank top. Grr.
My favorite place in Seattle so far is this place called Shorty’s. On Sunday nights they do a pinball tournament so we headed there, where MK was quickly ousted, but we met a lot of great people and will hopefully go back all the time. Finally, we went to the Seattle equivalent of the Alamo, a downtown theater called The Big Picture, and saw Hot Fuzz. The beers were $2 and the popcorn had white cheddar on it. Mmmmm. The movie was not as funny as I had hoped.
There is a tournament for girls only coming up at Shorty’s, and the grand prize is, you guessed it:

so I’ll be there practicing for the next few weeks, now that I know I need this pinball machine. More than anything.
