Wildlife

We had a pretty decent storm yesterday.

We were just laying low and working around the house watching the snow fall. Having all the windows open, we saw two cool things.

First pets were some birds I’ve never seen before. Large, blue and black with giant plumes on their heads and long tails. Yay for husband filling the bird feeder! Every time he tried to take a picture, they moved to the back of the bird feeder. Must have been shy.

Then, slightly eclipsing the birds, were two moose – looked like a baby and momma, that chilled out pretty close to the house! They stuck around for most of the day and ate through our back yard and left right before dark.

Park City: Home?

MK sent me last week to Park City to look at some houses. Mostly everyone thought this was crazy, but I took a lot of pictures, and yes, he would trust me enough to buy a place that I loved without him seeing it. At least I thought so – so far no place…even though JM showed me more than enough – I’m in love with two houses and three condos!

Anyway, TB picked me up and we house hunted for two whole days, hung out in the cool mountain air, checked out downtown and the Deer Valley Resort, which was breathtaking in the summer! I loved seeing everyone out hiking and biking. I had a wonderful time with my lovely hosts. I got to eat at my favorite place, Davanza’s. SB even told me she didn’t want me to leave, and that MK and I needed to hurry up and be done at the beach.

Here are some pictures!

Best I Can Do

We’ve been having such a great summer! Getting to know our good friends even better, hanging around the beach, trying tons of new places, and starting our volleyball club at 4pm has been a blast! MK has a ton of photos he owes me that I keep promising you that just aren’t happening. Today BD and MR let me join them for a trip to Balboa Park, a really amazing place that we don’t get to all that often. I took pictures with my phone since I forgot my camera – but hey, that means I have the pictures and can show you them! I just threw everything that was on my phone into an album.

Here they are!

I have so much more to look forward to – Sandy Eggo is a great place! We’re taking a road trip, seeing comedians, concerts, planning trips, and getting a few more visitors soon – not to mention CH moving here! Best Summer EVER!

My Green Thumb

Right around Christmas, maybe a week before, we bought some poinsettias at Home Depot. I wanted three, but MK only let me get two, a red and a pink one. We usually get one every winter. It usually dies before Christmas. Or shortly thereafter.

But check out these guys:

red

The pink one is much bigger. They were doing so well in April when we moved that yes,  I TOTALLY took them with us. Some of our first company that we had to explain we had a furnished place to commented “How tacky of the owner to leave old plants”, which was really funny after I let them know that, no, those were ours.

I’ve never kept anything alive so long. (Come to think of it, I’m probably totally jinxing myself). Maybe it helps our little condo is like a sauna in the morning.  I don’t think you can spot it in the pictures, but these are BOTH sprouting new branches. It’s pretty funny. And exciting. I’m thinking of re-potting them in real pots. We’ll see.

Just wanted to share my excitement about the first thing I haven’t killed. Maybe it’s time to upgrade to a puppy…

I Miss You

This is the thirty seconds I get of computer time to tell you how much I miss you- quick little catch up note style. I will not get into the bargaining and begging I had to subject myself to just to be able to say hi. The laptop is off in some cold building getting fixed and MK would rather I cut off his toes while he slept than touch his computers. Apparently they are important things that pay my bills.

Fortunately I got a beach cruiser and had a girls day at the beach to keep me occupied. We even had Round One of the Great Guac-Off, and I look forward to much more pigging out over homemade guacamole all summer. Riding a bike after 15 years or so was a riot. I need more practice before I hit the streets. We’re off to volleyball, talk to you soon!

Exciting New Toy

There’s a method to MK’s madness more often than not. He researches and shops online and gets us great deals. And I can’t stand it. There’s nothing worse than waiting for a big deal gift and losing that instant gratification – that’s totally my vice. I love seeing it, wanting it, getting it. So what if I forget what it is in a few weeks.

I didn’t even tell anyone about this one – it was on back order and I never thought we’d get to see it. MK got us a new Nikon D90 – a really amazing camera. We’re still waiting on one more lens but have already taken some really amazing photos. I can’t wait to share quality photos instead of links and low quality images. Yay!

Dooce

I met dooce last night! This is the giant exciting post (that Mom said don’t bother with).

Reread my previous entry about dooce here.

Let's go meet dooce!

Let's go meet dooce!

TB is a super big fan. She noticed dooce was here for a book signing. We braved a winter storm warning, had a delicious Lebanese dinner, and went to the reading. It’s tough to collectively frame all my thoughts the day after, but I’ll do my best.

TB gets the bits I don’t get, obviously- I don’t have a baby. It’s amazing to see all the women that can relate – there was an awesome turnout (more people than will ever even buy the book I’m never going to publish, never mind want to MEET me!).

Super excited fan yo!

Super excited fan yo!

I’m more interested in the blogging your life stories. I could see writing on cnet or even Yahoo!, but I have a hard time truly opening up and telling y’all stories sometimes. That lady has it ALL out there, and for a million people she’s never met. That’s just plain crazy to me! She made it look so easy, no big thing. Her reading was something I could never do, not with 12 family members staring up at me!

Talking about sex in front of her parents...piece of cake

We headed over to the King’s English, a super adorable book store I want to own one day and sit around reading in, and got our books signed. TB was so nervous that later in the car she was sure she said something creepy, but her filter was on, she only gushed the just right amount. I couldn’t think of anything to say (dude, people brought her gifts, that threw me) but did tell her husband outside that he does an awesome job programming. That was all I could think of.

Zion National Park

On our drive back from San Diego MK and I went through Zion National Park. We were unfortunately no where near dressed warm enough to do a big hike but took a thousand pictures from the car –

here they are!

It was a beautiful spot and one we’ll probably go through again and camp and hike properly.

SXSW 2009 – Saturday

We got off to a little bit of a late start Saturday. By the time we got downtown, LC had let us know not to bother with the 5 block long line at the Rachel Ray show. We took our time and enjoyed a lunch at the Brick Oven and headed over to the Mohawk Hot Freaks Showcase.

Boy were we glad we did. KD, SB, RB, and I picked the right place at the right time (again!). I got frisky with the door guy and finagled a crazy extra amount of extra free drink tickets. Yum. JC showed up and met us, and some of KD’s friends. We saw the Vivian Girls, Viva Voce, Camera Obscura, and Peelander-Z. Peelander-Zis the band you see three hundred pictures of. Maybe it was the 50 PBR’s, but their show was pretty hilarious.

JP and JC suggested that we go see the Gay Blades, a band that had played the Midgetmenshowcase Wednesday that I sadly missed. So we headed over to the Jackalope after joining up with DW. It was there I met my sister in law for the first time. Super exciting! We got along so well we didn’t even notice some band had canceled and there was no music. Oh well! The afternoon was a blast – my favorite kind of let’s all just go with the flow day. The Gay Blades music and showmanship was great and I was excited to be running around town in the great weather.

Click here for the ton of Saturday day show photos.

Everyone went their separate ways for the night and KD and I decided some home cooked food and a break sounded good. We headed to her place and not only caught the end of a close UT game, but saw the fireworks over Auditorium Shores for a show there right from her place. It was pretty amazing. A short snooze later we decided to check out the iheartcomix party, with a lineup that included Popo, Jaimie Fanatic, Maluca, and Diplo. We tried our best to ignore the strange surroundings, the weird crowd, and the warm beer, but couldn’t handle the awful sounding music and the wait in between sets. We made it to until about 2 and called it a night, sorry Diplo. That’s two years in a row I couldn’t hold out for you…We were glad to have made it out, but there are no photos, as there was not much to photograph. As far as I’m concerned, it’s best that we made it back out even if it was a bust, or we would have always wondered…
