The new New Balance ad campaign is killing me. With its accuracy. The second one is my favorite. I love skipping workouts, seeing other people doing it, and feeling that guilty twinge. I haven’t told you much about my workouts of late since I’ve found the right routine. We’re doing the gym together and I run every so often but have had a sore knee lately so I usually a cardio video at home or exercise by the pool. Whatever, it’s working. But I never started to love, or even like, running. Check these commercials out, they’re too cute.

Yoga Is So Granola
Well, at least that’s what I’ve spent a long time thinking. It’s so trendy, it’ll stop being trendy and then everyone will laugh about their “yoga phases” and their “skinny jeans” in the same story.
But now I’m not so sure. I’ve been told even ‘real’ athletes are giving this a go. Musicians, too. So they can breathe better. I have trouble with that sometimes. A sale convinced me 10$ could be spent on the mat. Now what to do with it…
Classes are tricky, because I don’t want to be the only one that doesn’t know what is going on. And I don’t want to accidentally go to the sweaty one, eew. And some people don’t wear their shoes, and I am afraid of saying something out loud about their yucky feet.
So I found this site called iyogalife.com. It lists all the poses and gives you great tips and advice and stories with a very down to earth flavor. I like it when you make fun of the weirdos too. I can’t do things by reading written instructions, so I’m excited that there are videos. (Click the logo for a sample). So I’ll let you know how it goes, right now I’m mostly just thinking about it. I’ll get there.
*Side note: I also opted to add Fish Oil (Omega3) pills to my diet. If you think fish is gross like I do, eat something when you take these very necessary vitamins. Or you will burp fish oil. Bleh.
November 07 Tally
Going in to November was rough. I knew we would be traveling a lot and that writing would stress and hinder me. I did manage to work out a couple times on vacation, which was great. So I’m taking what I could get. I liked that even without working out every day, I didn’t lose all my progress. It shows me I’ve cleared another hurdle.
Final stats on the Calendar of Fitness:
- I alternated between running and weights 15 out of 30 days this month. Tolerable.
- I have pushed myself with new routines and found new ways to avoid bad food in settings that make it hardest to do so.
- I’ve let my running go a little, substituting other cardio activities. I also purchased some weights, a resistance band, and a balance ball, since I missed having these things at home. I think it’s worth the investment.
If you go to a gym that has Life Fitness machines, I’d suggest trying this one. It’s for the ladies, and at my gym most shy away from it because they are copying men and don’t see men on it. It has done miracles for my problem area, where the butt and thigh meet. It works!
Another great thing about San Diego is our friends. They meet up for exercise more than for happy hour. One friend went out swimming over the weekend, saw a half marathon, and just decided to do it. We’ve done hiking and MK’s all active gearing up for snorkeling and scuba.
Good luck through the holidays to everyone trying to stay fit!

October 07 Tally
This was an awesome month, one of my best. I kept up with exercise through our move, a huge accomplishment. Last month I linked to the years worth of posts I’d kept up with monthly in my pursuit of health. This month, my husband actually remarked I’ve accomplished more than the past year. Sweeeet.
Final stats on the Calendar of Fitness:
- I alternated between running and weights 24 out of 31 days this month. Awesome.
- I kept up with writing what I ate, and wrote down the details of my workout, focusing on the weights. I have lost inches everywhere.
- I’ve started taking meal supplement shake things – Myoplex Lite Shakes, as recommended on the Body for Life Program.
I feel the best ever. I mean, I’m doing more weights than I was last year already, in one months time. Because of my seriousness, we joined a gym here, the La Jolla Sports Club. It was either that or 24HourDungeon, which was an easy choice. I might also have smaller pants, but I’ve posted about that too many times for anyone to notice any more. Also, there aren’t smaller sizes…

Nerd Workout
For 3$, I decided it was worth the investment to purchase and attempt a second hand “Power Half Hour” workout DVD. I’m pretty skeptical of things like these. Would it work? Would I be too embarrassed?
I did have to kick MK out of the house in order to get myself worked up enough to attempt the workout. I felt a little too Jane Fonda, and was bummed I didn’t have any spandex tights. That would complete the cliché.
So here I am, three whole days later, letting you know I still can’t walk properly. I got through the whole workout (barely) and went on with the rest of my day. Then I couldn’t walk. For two whole days. I think it worked. Then I found out it was the p90x guy. He’s a big cheeseball, but easy on the eyes.
Lesson learned: It’s worth shutting the blinds and watching a TV trainer for 30 minutes. Changing up your routine is good, and this is one way I bet you haven’t.

Firsts Over Lasts
It seems to me that doing things for the first time is more fun than doing them for the last. I’ve turned in my last library book, made the last trips to my favorite places, gone for the last car ride out to Bellevue. We’ve eaten our last Pike’s Place Chowder. Just like when we left Austin, we had to get it all in, although this time I haven’t gained 25 lbs.
I’m excited about our new firsts, but getting ready to go is bittersweet. I know I really like Seattle, I’m going to miss the new friends I’ve made, and I’m really going to miss my little gym. It all flew by so quickly.
MK and I canceled our Globo Gym memberships, there isn’t one near where we’ll be moving. I’m (sort of) two weeks in to this intense Body For Life routine (that guy is insane, certifiably, I can’t lift my arms) and well, it’s depressing to think the next place we’re at might not even have a gym…
So there’s the pros and cons.
Do you prefer the firsts in life, or the lasts?

September 07 Tally
This month marks one year of me updating you on my trials and tribulations, health nut style. It’s exciting, I know. I put links in at the bottom, and if you like, you can CLICK HERE for all the posts I’ve written in the category I call “Health”.
Final stats on the Calendar of Fitness:
- I ran and worked out about 8 times the whole month. Pretty bad.
- I started writing down everything I eat. You’d be amazed how easy it is to stay away from a french fry when you have to document it.
- I felt like I was in a rut. I read Snippy’s comments (here) about Body For Life. Although I didn’t sign up, I’m already in the gym trying more weights and new routines to keep myself motivated and change things up a bit. She’s been having success and I figured it was worth a shot.
So, after one year, I needed to change things up, and I am. As you can see by the history, I don’t count drinking any more since the calories are negligible now. I’m really hitting the weights to see if I can really dramatically tone and slim my figure. I’ll keep the running up, but limit myself to 4 or 5 miles a day 5 times a week as a just for fun thing. We’ll see what happens next month!

August Tally
Too many visitors and vacations are getting in my way again (still). My new resolution is to not treat it as an excuse for bad food and drinking any more. That might work for people when it’s only once every so often, but we’re not like that, there’s always something going on. I am also going to start trying to permanently logging my miles, I made 34 last month (since I only ran 8 days that’s not bad.)
Final stats on the Calendar of Progress:
- I used those ankle weights all the TIME. If the gym was busy I used them for upper body lifting as well. I could watch tv and lay on my side, etc. They are awesome and I’d recommend them to everyone who thinks they are too tired to work out. I’m done trying to lose weight, since I did squeeze my butt into size 0 pants (but didn’t buy them haha). Now it’s all about tone.
- I am still running long routes, but the timing was hard with my parents visiting at the beginning of the month and Mexico at the end. In other news, my parents have been walking every day, drinking and eating out less too!! It’s exciting when you rub off on other people around you. (I’m assuming that one).
- In Mexico I drank strictly banana margs to get my fruits 😉
I found I was not drinking enough water so I’m getting back up on that.
I also have started taking a giant horse pill of a multi vitamin every day.
Things are looking good and keep looking better!
Running Reaps Rewards
Well, besides the health and wellness junk, I decided I owed myself a new treat. I’m so in love with these:
and picked them up this week. They are the comfiest ever. Like a sock with a sole. I’ve been using them for all things walking and weight lifting, continuing to use my ugly Asics to run-run in.
MK almost died when I let the lady talk me into buying the matching pullover. But the colors are sooo pretty. Also, it has those little built in thumb holes. So cute. I’ve always wanted one of those. So, in 4 months or so, I will look adorable.
Google Pedometer
You can create your personalized run map online! Check your mileage! Find out how many calories you’ve burned! Genius! That’s a lot of exclamation points!
No, I don’t work for Google. Everyone else in Seattle does, (after they leave Microsoft?) but not me. Yet. But check it anyways. This is cool. And useful if you’re not all GPS on the phone or whatever.
This is where I found it: Energise For Life
They wrote an article that’s interesting if you don’t like mine. (I’m sleepy today)
Here’s the actual Google link: Google Pedometer
Which I know is what you’re really excited about (assuming you don’t already have it)
And best yet, here’s one of mine: 6 mile Run
That’s the run I like down by the water, there and back. Don’t look for me, creepies. You can’t keep up anyway.
🙂
