Great News

How much do I love Law and Order? I love it with all my being. If there’s a choice between doing anything and seeing a L&O I haven’t already seen, or maybe have seen but forgot how it ended, I will sit in front of the tv. TNT, USA, Bravo, you have marathons at a time, where I will camp out and not even answer the phone during 5 to 13 hour long stretches of tv. It’s bad, I know. I’m addicted. I have the computer game. Mom bought me DVD seasons. I know the theme song. I wish it was a ringtone. Or my doorbell ring. Don’t cross me, I know what to do to avoid conviction. I’ve made mention I think I could pass the bar. That’s how much L&O I watch.

Anyway, Fred Thompson, the DA, is a real former senator. And, should he decide to run for President, I will vote for him. NOT ONLY was he on my favorite show, I did a little research and discovered I approve of most of his policies. (Minus Mexican Wall, of course!!) But, mostly, he was on my favorite show. Oh, and have you SEEN his wife? That would be awesome.

Really? I would even send him a campaign contribution. It might only be $50, but hey.

SXSW Night (And Day!) Six

Friday started out bright and early at around 2, meeting up with the crew at the Little Radio party at the Red Eyed Fly. It wasn’t all that happening, but I did pick up a koozie and a free CD from them. We wandered from there when the music started to make us doze off a bit. We got in to Emo’s at the most perfect time, hardly having to wait in the line that was forming. You know the day is going to be good when you start with Sparks for breakfast:

The bands we saw were absolutely great. Menomena, Girl Talk, and Peter, Bjorn, and John, the band I’d been hearing all the buzz about.

I really liked the sound of Menomena (Men-oh-mean-ah, not mahnamahna, like I kept saying). Girl Talk I had never heard of, but whenever a guy gets on a stage with just a computer I’m always wondering what he’s really doing up there. It also seems odd to me that all those super scene-y people listen to all the pop music, I pictured them turning up their noses in disgust, but the were all dancing fools. Peter, Bjorn, and John didn’t really do it for me, but I’ll still be checking out the CD, realizing I’ll probably enjoy it at home with some wine instead of at an outdoor stage with a woman talking behind me the whole time and knocking me in the head with her camera. I also will call them PB and J. That makes me laugh.

*IMPORTANT PART OF THIS STORY THAT EVERYONE SHOULD READ:*

I got introduced to some new friends and we were all just standing in the street when what to my wondrous eyes should appear than PEREZ HILTON, with bright pink dyed hair:

perez.jpg

Does it look like I chased him down and forced a photo? Well, that’s because I did. He’s the most famous blogger I can think of, and he now graces the pages here at somegosoftly.

*END IMPORTANT PART OF THIS STORY.*

People are always taking pictures with the Frost Bank Tower in them, I figured I’d get you all one:

JC and I then checked out a band here at the outside Pure Volume stage, then met KD, and had some Brick Oven for dinner and saw some of the UT game on our way to the Diesel party. There we saw another great line up: David Vandervelde, The Epochs, Illinois, Matt & Kim, Tokyo Police Club, and Girl Talk again. I would recommend all of that music. The party was great and the (free!) drinks were nice. It might have been a little too much for some people, it got a little dirty in there:

You may be thinking to yourself, that place doesn’t look very full or fun. It got crazy packed and turned into a giant party, but I took this pic while Girl Talk was on, so everyone was dancing.

Let me show you before he started:

And then after:

after.jpg

That’s right, people rushed the stage. Girls were in prom dresses. Everyone shook their moneymakers. Good times were had. Shirts were removed. From men and women. (No pics of that, sorry!)

We managed to make it outside after all that craziness and viewed the phenomenon of the free ice cream truck. It certainly became the hit of the week. It’s sad to realize there’s only one more day of this to go…

Last News 8 Appearance

Per Mom’s request: A blog regarding my last News 8 Austin appearance, and it’s relevance to today’s news.

At my graduation from UT, my family threw me a super huge extravaganza at my aunt’s giant mansion. There were tons of people there. Dad was making sangria margaritas way too strong and everyone was running around having a blast. There was food and drinks and music and even a giant UT Longhorn cake, that I was put in front of and serenaded with “The Eyes of Texas”, led by my best friend SB who flew all the way from NYC to see me graduate.

To top all that best-party-ever-ness off, they had the TV on just in case. As I was giving my family a tour of the campus earlier that day, I was interviewed about the fact that Jenna Bush was in my graduating class and department. There was speculation about whether or not she would show. I don’t remember what I said, although I felt a little annoyed at the thought that her graduation would be any bigger of a deal to anyone than MINE, but it got on TV. During my party, nonetheless, there I was, on my aunt’s big screen, for all to see. It was hilarious.

SO, fast forward to today, three years later. Mom called to let me know that Ms. Bush has made the news, and will be publishing a book before me. Mom just wanted to apologize that my family apparently did not have the family connections to make my book happen before hers. I’m not worried though, mine will be better.

I went to classes.

Here I Am

So we got going early Sunday. Really early. We met up with some friends at Starbucks, aka most convenient place to leave one car in an attempt to get coffee twice…you have to go back… We made it to the park before 11 to be able to see the contests and bulk of big kites and activities. Husband MK took a good half hour to get his super fancy kite off the ground and flying in the gusty wind. While we were remarking how tough it was, there were some similar stunt kites performing. In my ironic ability to be on TV before publishing a book (and also in magazines and newspapers – ACL, NaNo, Beat the Heat etc., etc.) I was interviewed and appeared in both the written article and the film clip that everyone cool saw last night at 9:06 pm on news channel 8.

kite festival

It’s really pretty silly, but thought it’d be good for a laugh. Here’s a link to the article, and if you add the clip to cart then play you can see me! 🙂 Husband is not thrilled that I was picking on him but it was pretty funny, those stunt kites were cool. The voice over about this kids and weather at the end is me too. So it wasn’t all mean. PH is on there too, she wouldn’t talk, but she was standing right next to me.

Joe Rogan vs. Carlos Mencia (Ned Holness)

Well, this is ALL OVER the internet already, but for those readers of mine that might not have seen this, it’s a clip of Joe Rogan and Carlos Mencia. Screaming.

Watch:

Let me tell you, I LOVE Joe Rogan. Seriously. We saw him here in Austin at Cap City Comedy Club, and he was incredible. The stuff you might know him from is on the side for him – hosting Fear Factor and UFC, the show NewsRadio, and all that crap…but that’s not all he’s good at. (here’s his wikipedia page for more info)

He is certainly one of the best stand up comedians I’ve ever seen. He transfers his jokes effortlessly, his timing is flawless, and he brings his shows full circle, stuff I think is key to being a great comedian. We have never laughed so hard. He was taking shots, egging on the crowd, having a good time, making people think, and telling great jokes.

Well, so he sometimes has called people out on their “joke stealing”. I understand he’s made claims about Dennis Leary, Dane Cook, and others, so this isn’t his first attempt. He’s not just out to get Mencia. The way I see it, Mencia just makes it too easy.

Mike has been on my case since the guy got the TV show Mind of Mencia. It was on after Chapelle Show so we’d watch it occasionally. Mike HATED it. For many reasons. (Mencia’s wikipedia is currently locked from editing and under dispute…) Everyone talks not only about the joke ripping but that he doesn’t speak Spanish or isn’t from Latin America (Germany or something?), uses the name to trick people, etc, etc.

So it’s a big dispute receiving a lot of publicity lately, as The Comedy Store, Pauly Shore’s mom’s place, kicked Rogan out after this in favor of Mencia, AND Rogan’s agent, also Mencia’s, dropped him. All of which is discussed on Rogan’s site (click here if you haven’t checked it already).

What do YOU think???

Conversation With Katie Couric

Hey, there. Don’t worry, no one watches the evening news anymore. It’s too depressing. I know they are stressed out about you not keeping that large following, but that was probably a bunch of curious people. Look at the long term. Week to week goals are hard to manage. You’ll be fine. Your outfits have been great. Really. Well, I’ve only seen a few since I don’t tune in all the time but, no, no, don’t get mad. I’m sure that those Amish people didn’t even want you there. It wasn’t the only news story, of course I understand that. You just keep on truckin’ girl. I just wanted to let you know that I am rooting for you.

You’re A Writer?

Not exactly. I did get an English degree at UT. Most people find that to be a waste of money. But recently I’ve formed a plan:

  • For starters, I’m about to relieve myself of a little thing I call WORK.
  • Second, I’m going to write a book. A good one.
  • Thirdly, I’m going to PUBLISH this book.

The plan might need a little work. You get the idea.
