I Got Implants

Not to throw you off or get you too excited, that must be the nitrous talking – it’s not what you think. I went in to the dentist for what started out as a routine cleaning and found out there was this giant ruptured about-to-explode-all-over-my-face-tooth that needed to be extracted immediately.

I, of course, blame that on the crappy food in New Zealand, obviously I was served something that rots otherwise lovely teeth. We’re talking, got a sticker every trip to the dentist for years teeth. Hmpf.

Well, I’m a little lighter now, down one tooth. But then they IMPLANT you with BONE in your MOUTH but there’s still a HOLE and I have to go BACK and get some more FAKE TOOTH or something. Oh wait! I almost forgot to mention the STITCHES. In my face. Yuck.

This is what I think of when I think dentist:

And now you’re telling me I have to go BACK? There will be a total of three days like this one, where I have a mouth full of gauze and can’t talk and have bottles of Vicodin lying around and I’m eating soup and drinking water (not through a straw!). This is not my idea of a good time, folks.

Retail Therapy

There is something about shopping, no matter what, that makes me feel so good. I understand this is a common phenomenon among the ladies, and I wonder why. I have continued to be a little miffed and tried some yoga, some wine, some reading, some talking, nah. But heading out and spending some time amongst the stores and getting a few new things was lovely. I hadn’t been out in quite a while. There’s nothing like it. Four bags full of new stuff later, I was ‘feeling no pain’. And now I’ll look cute for the next couple of weeks too. That never hurts anyone’s feelings. Maybe it’s because clothes don’t talk back. Maybe because things fit better than last time I went out. Who cares! Well, I didn’t until I read that it has a really negative connotation, check the link!

Here’s what wikipedia says: Retail Therapy

Boo to those guys, I say a little shopping never hurt anyone.

Love Is In The Air

Last night, I found myself peering across the table from a lovely date.

Last night before I left my husband for this date, he let me in on a little secret, that the night before Valentine is the common night that men take their mistresses out. He said he read it on the internet. Hmm. Well, this was KD, not my man or my mistress (well, I did get her a card), and I didn’t have time to wander the restaurant asking other people there if they were in the middle of being unfaithful. Maybe next year.

It was a blast to spend some relaxed time together after all the gym-ness we’d been rocking together.

All the holidays have been my favorite this year. Card shopping has been fun. Why you ask? I get to buy stuff that says “husband“. I have a husband. This is the first time that that has happened. All the holidays have been happier, even though we’ve been together for a long time, just knowing that we’ve cemented that. MK has always been the best guy at Valentine’s, a list of all my sweet and thoughtful gifts would make you want to puke, all the other gifts would make you want to rob me (why I’m not listing them). He reminds me everyday, not just today, why I fell for him.

Anyway, knowing there are some out there that are not in love with what I agree is a cheesy day, a commercial day (velvet and snippy), there are also those out there that think of it as a time to reflect, to be happy, to call their mother, to give their single friends cards, and eat a little candy, to kiss someone just a little longer, to remember the little school parties and construction paper cards. Either way, Happy Valentine’s Day!

Writing Down The Bones

There’s that little sidebar information about the novels and such that I’ve been getting into, which I assume that you’ve noticed. (Or are noticing now, I’ll wait, go ahead…)

Right. So, I haven’t made detailed comments on every book, and I feel as though I should let you know why that is.

1. That would be a lot of posts, I’m reading many many books lately.

2. I am a skilled book-picker-outer. If it’s up there, you should go buy it or ask to borrow it. It will be a good one.

3. Some of you (yeah, sorry to single you out) don’t know how to read if it isn’t a blog or an email.

4. Some of you (even worse than those in category #3) read – gasp – things like self help books and _____ for Dummies. Stop it.

Ironically enough, this will help you out a little if you’re in category #3. The book Writing Down the Bones was a gift from a client ages ago who was so impressed by me that he was convinced I would write a great book. He bought me this as a gift, for inspiration. And maybe also because he was all about meditation and there’s a little of that in there.

I implore you to check this book out. Even if you are not a writer, chances are you need a little order in your life, and this book will help. Every place she mentions ‘writer’ you could insert ‘stock broker’ or ‘checkout assistant’ and learn something.

How It’s Made

A marathon of this show would certainly make you a little smarter. It might even teach you the finer points of working in a factory. It might make you hungry, there’s a lot of food on there. It might make you change the channel, I can’t lie, I don’t know you or what things make you do. However, I think we might agree one of the finer points of cable is certainly having more options than only Deal or No Deal and Wife Swap.

Honorable Mention

The sweet, sweet, sweetest, BIL in the world, was a little miffed he hasn’t had his own blog entry. How cute.

I’m pretty sure, therefore, that the treasure hunt that had little post its running all over my house when I got home this afternoon was purely to get his own feature story here. Did I mention that he’s a handsome, successful, athletic, friendly, caring guy?

He left us the Wii.

Better

I’ve been a little frustrated lately with the way some things in my life have been going. I am so blessed, so fortunate, to not need or want for anything. My life is full of wonderful people and great memories. Sometimes, despite all that, little things can get in the way. That can happen to everyone. I’m never one to admit something is wrong, I’d rather forget it or make it disappear. Unless it doesn’t make sense, then I worry. Lately, I’ve been worrying far too much.

I also don’t think in complete sentences, or thoughts. I’d found continually just when I think I had something or someone figured out, an event would come along to change my ideas completely. It was easier to simply coast along on the surface.

I had an amazing night last night. KE took me to Austin Stone Community Church. I haven’t been to any church in quite some time, and I’m pretty sure this was the problem in my life. The feeling was overwhelming. I can’t wait to belong, to continue to grow, to return to my faith, and to people who know what they are doing in this life: preparing for the next, and owning their being and serving others with it, not themselves.

It was truly a rewarding experience. I hadn’t expected much, from a 7pm service in the high school. I got so much more than I imagined. Real hope springs from turning my life around and getting excited again about doing something amazing.

Wii-Tarded

Spend a weekend around the Jokey-Mc-Jokertons, and you’ll be spending time creating words with Wii at the beginning, because you’ve played a good portion of your wii-kend.

Wii managed to make it out for one of the most wii-tarded dinners ever at Chuy’s where there was the worst service of all time (most waiters are happy it’s busy because they make money, those guys would rather DIE than work…) and all of us now have stickers on the ceiling that wii will commemorate with never wii-turning there again, but BIL really wanted to eat there. I was not too impressed with the food, give me Maudie’s any day over that place. Oh well.

Wii had a pretty good laugh at someone who’s identity will be protected for sake of you seeing and laughing at this person, who managed to hit themselves in the face getting a little too into the Wii Sports boxing. That was filed under ‘wii-diculous’.

www.blogs.theage.com.au

Wii also got to see Saw, but only I and III because apparently II was not good, so not good in fact wii were forcibly kept from renting that one. Huh. I thought they were okay, but I honestly was expecting more gore.

Wii also did some Frisbee golfing, some coffee drinking, some painting, some El Arroyo eating, even some Fwii-birds – okay, that one’s a stretch – and I made over 5 trips to the gym in the last 4 days (twice at 8am – wow), I’m getting into this big time. Wii did a one-two combo of Body Pump and Combat and I am pretty sure that when I can feel my legs and arms again they will be much more muscular.

It is wii-tastic to spend the wii-kend with family, friends, and a little chill time around the game that kept us active and cracking up non stop. Wii couldn’t believe how long the wii-kend is when you don’t go out past bedtime and you get going at the gym early. It was certainly wii-tastic and wii-markable.

HOW could I almost forget to mention that I met someone who did an episode of Room Raiders (not wii-markable) that met JOHNNY ROTTEN and tell you that word on the street is he’s doing a wii-ality show called Rotten on the Road!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!? He was (this is third hand information) at the Driskill Friday filming. I missed it. 😦

Wii Would Like To Play, Really

After a rousing night that started at the Alligator Grill, then headed to the Broken Spoke, the coolest, most fun two stepping party in the world, we went home. I was all excited to have a Mr. Dance himself throw me around the floor with this thing that people that know him say is the Mr. Dance Factor. Even if you’re totally inept, he can make you look fantastic, because, well, he’s Mr. Dance. The place was packed, and everyone knows everyone, which was adorable.

www.abfwot.blogs.com

KE had an alright time too, if you ask me, meeting what I would consider a possible Mr. Right and this being their first real date. Hunky, and intelligent. We’ll see what happens there.

Anyway, the Brother in Law (BIL) brought the Wii and we watched, and watched. Shocking I’m sure, to you, that the men wouldn’t let us play. They were golfing and I wanted to bowl, but nooooooooo.

So I had one, in my own house, hooked up to my projection screen, and got no play time. BIL is off to Dallas for the night, with the Wii, so I will have to wait until Sat. night to give you my review. Let’s all just hope that it doesn’t involve me breaking any windows.
