Wii Would Like To Play, Really

After a rousing night that started at the Alligator Grill, then headed to the Broken Spoke, the coolest, most fun two stepping party in the world, we went home. I was all excited to have a Mr. Dance himself throw me around the floor with this thing that people that know him say is the Mr. Dance Factor. Even if you’re totally inept, he can make you look fantastic, because, well, he’s Mr. Dance. The place was packed, and everyone knows everyone, which was adorable.

KE had an alright time too, if you ask me, meeting what I would consider a possible Mr. Right and this being their first real date. Hunky, and intelligent. We’ll see what happens there.

Anyway, the Brother in Law (BIL) brought the Wii and we watched, and watched. Shocking I’m sure, to you, that the men wouldn’t let us play. They were golfing and I wanted to bowl, but nooooooooo.

So I had one, in my own house, hooked up to my projection screen, and got no play time. BIL is off to Dallas for the night, with the Wii, so I will have to wait until Sat. night to give you my review. Let’s all just hope that it doesn’t involve me breaking any windows.

Full House

My husband has this innate ability to successfully forget to mention important things until the very last minute. As a result of this ability, I have more people than rooms in my house. I have a friend staying with me – that part was expected and perfectly fine. What I didn’t know is that I have a brother-in-law on a plane right now expecting a place to sleep in my home.

(Poor chickens).

The discussion ranged from said friend and brother becoming really good friends to getting a hotel for, well, us, we’re selfish. The result? Someone’s going to have to rock-paper-sissors for a bed vs. a couch. What can you do? I’m trying to be accomodating, at least I’m cooking and cleaning for them, right?

Also frustrating is that I have a super fun night out planned and husband will be at the airport. Super friend will be a stand in, and that will do!

Washington For Thanksgiving

I had such a blast hanging out with MK’s family, now mine too… in DC for the holiday. We played mah jong almost every night. Contrary to your thought, it is not the alternative to solitaire, it’s a four player sort of gin rummy that gets it’s own TABLE. I don’t know about you, but I was impressed. I won once. But if I’m ever on Jeopardy and they show the Chinese symbol for “West” or “Prosperity”, I have a chance of getting right. Or confusing it with “White”. Hmm.

We did the whole touristy thing, and that was lovely. It’s good to check things like that off your list. I know I’m biased, but I scored a pretty cute family of in laws, especially MK’s little sister:

What? You don’t see the resemblance? You’re silly.

I Like Christmas

I’m not the material girl.

That’s not what Christmas is all about.

I know that.

But let me just tell you how I feel about the holidays:

Santa baby, just slip a sable under the tree
For me
Been an awful good girl
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight
Santa baby, a ’54 convertible too
Light blue
I’ll wait up for you, dear
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight
Think of all the fun I’ve missed
Think of all the ‘fellas that I haven’t kissed
Next year I could be oh so good
If you’ll check off my Christmas list
Santa baby, I want a yacht and really that’s not a lot
Been an angel all year
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight
Santa honey, one little thing I really need
The deed
To platinum mine
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight
Santa cutie, and fill my stocking with a duplex
And checks
Sign your “x” on the line
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight
Come and trim my Christmas tree
With some decorations brought at Tiffany
I really do believe in you
Let’s see if you believe in me
Santa Baby, forget to mention one little thing
A ring
I don’t mean on the phone
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry… tonight

Christmas to me, in CT especially, is the 8,000 oldies stations that play carols. If you know about Dominic the Donkey, Santa Baby, and THE CHRISTMAS SHOES (I might have to explain), you really know me.

How Do You Stop A Charging Man?

Take away his credit card.

That one was Dad’s.

And you thought the first one was bad. Phew.

Connecticut is messing with my head…I watched a HOCKEY game. Didn’t they quit that? I totally thought they stopped playing hockey. My dad’s best friend plays in a band, and we went to see him. Talk about ADORABLE. They flew from CT to see MK and I tie the knot, so of course I went to go see him play, at the dirtiest bar in the world. Too cute.

In case you were wondering, yes, I think that is what every bar in CT looks like.

Success, I Like…

In the words of Borat, “This book is good not.”

borat thumbs up
www.themol.typepad.com

I’m a little lost. Where was I? Did I already write about this? Where is that one part? What happens next? Are we in a comedy or tragedy? Who wants a happy ending? Where’s my coffee? Does this computer have a spell check or what? How do you forget how to type in ten days? Will they really know if I just copy the whole thing into the word counter twice? Is 3,000 words too many about a hang nail?

Just kidding on that last one. Although…

That’s just the beginning. Connecticut gets me going, each time I’m home, I want to move up and stay. I miss my family so much. All five of us played pool ’till the wee morning hours. I’ve learned where I get the skill to completely miss any ball on the table, thanks mom. I’ve learned that my brothers are as refined in the art of smack-talk as I am, way to go C and C. I want to be a good daughter and just relax but I get all excited and talk and talk – I’m a dork.

But I feel normal. I can be myself as annoying as that is and know that even if mom and dad are going to bed in the next room telling each other that they don’t know where I get it from and I’m an idiot that at least they still love me. Even if my book sucks.

Beloved Ones

What an amazing weekend. We couldn’t have packed in more touristy stuff, laughing, fun, or food. We got to see and do everything and spend good times together. That makes up for the trip being late and short. Even just watching football with my aunt and cousin was a riot. We stopped to see them on the way to and from San Antonio. We got to spend time with AS’s parents and see her new MANSION. We did the Alamo, the Riverwalk, the boat, the tower, even a street festival. We had the nicest hotel, dinners, drinks, everything. This morning we walked Town Lake and then ate at Magnolia, which negates the walking, but it was so good! We’ll see what more we can pack into their last two days here.

Fluffy Guy

Took the parents to Cap. City Comedy Club to see Gabriel Iglesias last night. You might have seen him on Comedy Central or Last Comic Standing. Thursday night shows (I had no idea) are longer than Friday/Saturday because there’s only one show. There were two opening acts, Martin Moreno and Noe Gonzalez. Gabriel was up there TWO HOURS. He was really funny. I liked that he knew a lot about Austin and had been here enough to talk about local things. He also involved the crowd and made a lot of jokes on the spot. Dad was cracking up and Mom got caught laughing at even some of the crude jokes :). If you’ve got time this weekend, worth checking out!

We’ll be in San Antonio for the weekend, we get to stay at the Contessa and eat at Biga on the Banks, my family gets to meet my best friend AS’s parents, which I’m really looking forward to. Have a good weekend!

The ‘Rents

The parental units are descending upon the city of Austin. We’ll hang out here for the week and then spend the weekend in San Antonio. Per the typical family trip, it is supposed to rain as soon as they get here. Blame it on my ‘rents.

It should be sunny in San Antonio so that’s good – we get to go to the Alamo and the Riverwalk and some festival street-thing that my friend AS told us about. Matter of fact, her parents are coming in this weekend too and we’re having a fancy dinner out.

The best part of this trip for my Mom and Dad is they aren’t coming down for a wedding or graduation or anything life that – so we get to relax. Usually there’s too much going on and we don’t even get to really visit.

Love, Mom

Mom tells me today, “I like reading Snippy’s blog better.”

Ouch.

Me: “But you’re my MOM.”

Mom: “But she does stuff.”

So: Anyone want to take me dancing? Or start a fight? Nah. I’ll get over it. Maybe.
