Today was freezing! It was…about 6o. We never did make it out in the morning for our run, even after trying to get all dressed up warm. I’m not very sad about that. We did walk a little…when sun did show up a little later. We went to practice. My only shot to survive one game of this pinball tournament Sunday is to cheat or play Lord of the Rings and accidentally shoot the same shot that I shot today…which will never happen, even if I do get in any more practice. I was thinking of maybe wrapping my hands all sumo style. Quarters in my palms? Hmmm.

Another Weekend
One more weekend done. It’s been such a blast but it also feels like the time is passing so quickly! After lunch Friday we headed out to Broadway, where I happily found a dozen or so great boutiques and bought 4 shirts and a dress. One was a 99$ BCBG shirt on sale for 30$. I know where I’m getting my stuff from now on! Super fashionable, trendy, and affordable. I love my new looks, it’s fun to change it up every once in a while…
We went to Fremont to a bar called Nectar and saw a great salsa/reggaeton band that a friend invited us out to. For whatever reason, though, we still can’t get used to staying out late and were out of there by 12. The next morning, bright and early, we were back by the water for more chowder and excitement. There was a cruise ship docked, this weekend starts the season and it was definitely a sight. People where everywhere on the piers, luggage and cell phones, eating, drinking. I’ve never been on one but it looked interesting. If you’ve never seen one of those boats, I don’t think you can conceptualize the size of those things. It was crazy. We started out touring the harbor in a free tour, happy to get out on the water, and happy to learn that is not something worth paying for when company comes. The we toured the maritime museum, which was actually a lot of fun, very kid oriented. There was a tug boat ‘parade’ and contest where we voted for our favorite. It was one big party after another on the water. The Coast Guard followed with an amazing presentation of a helicopter water rescue. After that, we got back on chowder duty. We must have tried at least ten and started getting pretty full. Not only that, but there were Yankees fans everywhere…so we had to get out of there…![]()
We have so many great pictures and I’m still not sure the easiest way to get the most to you…
But I have to at least show you my “Deadliest Catch”:
Sunday we spent the day shopping, Fred Meyer, my new favorite store, a quick stop at WalMart, and a ton of food at Costco. We have company coming so soon…

The Seattle based Run.com is a neat site where you can pick your city, plan your route, and share with others. I’ve already done some that were listed for Seattle!
This is one:

Blame The Weather
Or the husband, or the exploring, or the city, or the internet…
I miss you guys. I haven’t even been able to barely turn on the computer, I admit it. I haven’t been perusing, exploring, driveling, okay, or anything on the computer lately. Here’s my formal apology for all those lazy posts, to all of you calling asking “What has been going ON!?!?!” I haven’t even checked email (although now that I have, I have plans for tonight!) lately. It’s too sunny, too beautiful, too fun to walk around, too much to do! MK has been bogarting the internet, but is finally hooking up the wifi as I type. Small victory.
We have been gallivanting all over. We played poker, went out to dinner, and are currently in the midst of the Seattle Maritime Festival, which began yesterday with the Seattle Waterfront Neighborhood Chowder Cook Off. For 5 dollars, we get chowder from 20 restaurants all weekend to taste and vote for our favorite. There will also be boating and free tours of the aquarium and harbor. Yipee!
I’ve been keeping up my running, been able to add weights also (it’s sunny from 5am to 9pm, I’m getting in two workouts most days) and in addition to all that MK and I walk everywhere. The only small catch is all this seafood. I’m fairly certain I’d weigh 12 lbs. if I wasn’t trying to scarf down all the deliciousness that surrounds me everywhere I look. We grilled prawns on the roof again the other night, and some kabobs. It doesn’t seem to get any better than this. The waterfront run is so beautiful, I have to say I think it beats Town Lake in Austin. We saw a seal while we were running yesterday. How many of you have had that happen?;)
I forgot to share the great story of the arm wrestling debacle, wherein the dishwasher of the pizza restaurant made $65 or so beating a friend, here’s the proof (I guess we took pictures after all):
I haven’t done the customary, “By the way, I have a blog and your picture is subject to publication at any time” disclaimer, so let’s hope everyone’s cool…
And, in closing, for now, I’d like to let you know that I’ll be back soon(er).
It Was Free
…or something like that. That’s Lenin, in Fremont. They call that place the Center of the Universe. He’s in front of a Taco Del Mar…

Too Cool For Pictures
…So you’ll just have to take my word for it. We went out for very yummy pizza Friday night with a new group of friends, and then to a bar called the Pig ‘N Whistle. Saturday we walked to the Art Museum. They wouldn’t allow any pictures inside, but it was great. I have nothing to compare it to, not having been before this remodel and grand reopening, but everyone seemed to enjoy it. Most people that I know would hate to be there when it was that crowded. I have to tell you, I think I preferred it. I liked to see everyone else’s reactions to the art and how it differed from mine. There were some great pieces – Frida, Kandinsky, Warhol, Rodin, Pollock, and other great artists.
After all that excitement, we were starving. We ate at a great wine bar called Purple right by the museum. We did a little shopping and before we knew it, it was 10pm and we’d missed our chance to go to a bar for Cinco de Mayo. So we skipped that.
Sunday we went to Fremont after a big pancake breakfast (I made!) and walked through their Street Festival, one of those things where people sell handmade jewelry and that sort of stuff. We drove to Tulalip and shopped at the Seattle Outlet Mall. It was crap that MK got a ski coat for $50 and Lucky jeans for $30. I got a tank top. Grr.
My favorite place in Seattle so far is this place called Shorty’s. On Sunday nights they do a pinball tournament so we headed there, where MK was quickly ousted, but we met a lot of great people and will hopefully go back all the time. Finally, we went to the Seattle equivalent of the Alamo, a downtown theater called The Big Picture, and saw Hot Fuzz. The beers were $2 and the popcorn had white cheddar on it. Mmmmm. The movie was not as funny as I had hoped.
There is a tournament for girls only coming up at Shorty’s, and the grand prize is, you guessed it:

so I’ll be there practicing for the next few weeks, now that I know I need this pinball machine. More than anything.
The New SAM
Our adventures today began with me getting the most super fabulous hairdo of my life at the Quint Eby Salon. You should come visit me just for that. With that asset, we are headed down to the new Seattle Art Museum, which opens with a 35 hour marathon of exploring.
Can’t Wait!!!

New Adventures
These pictures are all at the Seattle Art Museum Olympia Sculpture Park, 9 acres by the water of running trails and crazy art that we explored today.
Then we went to the Hiram Chittenden Locks and Botanical Gardens. Watching the locks in action was amazing. The boat by itself is in the small lock, which puts a boat through in 8 minutes. In the large lock, they cramp all the boats in at once and get them through. You can walk all around the water, stand on the locks, and there’s even a salmon run there to see too.

More oysters!
For those of you curious, it’s only really rained one day since we’ve gotten here, and that was yesterday. It was wet for about two hours then cleared up. We were actually able to go out and made some new friends that we’re looking forward to exploring the city with.
Per Request
Here is the giant post of the most recent adventures in pictures. I’m most excited today because we went to the Downtown Seattle Library today and took a tour. I got a library card, something I don’t think I’ve had since I was in middle school. It was a riot. It’s a beautiful place:
I’m pretty excited about spending some time there.
That’s Qwest and Safeco from Highway 99 into town
That’s Safeco inside, you can see we spared no expense on seats. The guys that were raking dropped them and did a hilarious dance. I got the pic of the big screen right when the Red Sox ad popped up, woohoo. The guys were old(!) and it was adorable. It was a pretty good crowd and the Mariners also beat the Royals, yay!
This is Alki Beach, west of the city, with a great view.
Here are two very different types of fish at the Pike’s Market Anniversary Celebration:
peoplefish and monkfish ![]()
And last but not least, how about every state border we crossed:
