Firsts Over Lasts

It seems to me that doing things for the first time is more fun than doing them for the last. I’ve turned in my last library book, made the last trips to my favorite places, gone for the last car ride out to Bellevue. We’ve eaten our last Pike’s Place Chowder. Just like when we left Austin, we had to get it all in, although this time I haven’t gained 25 lbs.
I’m excited about our new firsts, but getting ready to go is bittersweet. I know I really like Seattle, I’m going to miss the new friends I’ve made, and I’m really going to miss my little gym. It all flew by so quickly.

MK and I canceled our Globo Gym memberships, there isn’t one near where we’ll be moving. I’m (sort of) two weeks in to this intense Body For Life routine (that guy is insane, certifiably, I can’t lift my arms) and well, it’s depressing to think the next place we’re at might not even have a gym…

So there’s the pros and cons.

Do you prefer the firsts in life, or the lasts?

Early Planning

When do you start thinking about the holidays? This weekend, MK and I realized that we need to think. Besides this giant move and drive, I’ve got to write another novel. I’ve got to finish my first novel. I mentioned that I was invited to a birthday celebration. MK mentions the day trading convention that we went to last year. Are we going again? JH calls and announces his wedding, Dec 1st. Can we make it? I’d love to see Key West…Where are we going for Thanksgiving? Where will his family be? I haven’t seen my family back home since last year. We must get some skiing in this winter. Utah? Colorado? ARGH!

Not to mention I miss my friends. All of a sudden, our penciled in little monthly calendar looked messy. How do you sort out all your time?

Do More Dishes Didn’t Make The List

Last April I published a little meme called Gotta Get Goals. Well, the guy who created it rounded up all the posts he could find on it. And read them. And complied the lists of top common goals, and some of the more unique ones. If you’d like to see a bunch of people that you don’t know talking about what they need to do for themselves, here’s the link.

I’m just still trying to figure out how he gets 80 people for a list of five things.

ACL Memories

About this time last year, I started a blog. And I started doing fun things. With friends. Now, I still have blog, I still do fun things, but my best friends are in Austin, and I am in Seattle.

The biggest weekend that I missed this past 6 months certainly was this past weekend: Austin City Limits. This is my little tribute to the memory. I heard great things about this year from friends and only wish I was there! I went back today and found how I made a schedule, then told you all about

I hope you enjoyed this little flashback. There’s nothing like the real thing, and well, I wasn’t there. But if you must know, here’s a couple peeps you can peruse for stories:

View From Above

Tiger stripes, that’s sort of what this looks like:

It was kind of hard to get a good picture, because, well, it’s me, and I can’t sit still and you can’t see it head on, but trust me, I am a tiger now. It’s what I’ve always wanted and could never convince a hair stylist to do. Which for a girl should be a warning sign, but acceptable culture aside, I love my new look. It dulls the pain of the hairdo I mentioned here, by drawing your attention to color instead of cut. I think I’m a genius.

No More Dropping It Like It’s Hot

What am I talking about? My favorite dance move, of course. You may call it the “Dip It Low”, “Bootilicious” the “Shakin’ It” or the “Get Low”.
All you need to know about it is that if it has been a while, even if you are a super star runner, you should limit yourself. I haven’t been going out at all lately, and should have known better. The first one got such rave reviews I forgot I was in 6 inch heels and sober. I shouldn’t have gone for drops two through seven. Hopefully the sheer inability to basically walk for the past two days will teach me the lesson.

Covert Operations

Well, I’m back from my week of fun in the sun, and you didn’t even notice I was missing!
At least I don’t think you did. I was able to write ’em up before I left and get a little hand posting! I missed you guys, really. While I was sitting on the beach in the sunshine, dipping in the pool, and enjoying 2 for 1 margaritas (banana mmm) bean and cheese nachos, and fresher than fresh salsa, I wondered how you were. I even fleetingly wondered if the entire site had crashed or not.

But all is well, and I am more tan than ever. Can’t wait to share the pictures with you.

So much happened while I was gone! Expect an onslaught on posts that keep you riveted this week. It’s good to be back. Hope you Labor Day weekend was as good as mine!

Heavenly Glow

Thanks to the wonderful Parvin at Spa Nordstrom, my face is softer and cleaner and prettier than ever. Ever. It was pretty impressive. I got some tea, some comfy robes and blankies, and a great hour or so of bliss.

Running and sunscreen and too much Seattle moisture made my face grouchy. Now it’s better. I let myself be sold a nice “Cleansing Milk”, which is what all you ladies should be using to clean your skin if the running (or whatever) makes your usually balanced skin oily and you want it clean but don’t want it to dry out. Sounded good to me.

Keeps Getting Better

Thursday was my all time most exciting day. I like record breaking, even if it’s only my own records, it’s a great sense of accomplishment. I mean, I wanted to call everyone I knew. You’re welcome that I didn’t.

I ran 10 miles.

I’ve never done more than 5 that I can remember, I get too hot or tired. At the 8 mile point my knees did hurt a little, but other than that, I made it. I couldn’t believe I really did it. True, my run was almost a crawl at the end. True, I downed a 100 giant bottles of water and was wiped out the rest of the day. But I ran 4 more miles Friday, and I’m shooting for 6 today. If I finish strong all weekend, that’s like a little week of a marathon for me.

It’s basically blowing my mind. I couldn’t even run one mile. Ever. I never thought this would be me. It’s awesome to see the change I’ve made.

And We Danced

So, I went to that dance class the other night. It was a small studio near Greenlake. With no air. What is it with these people? They tell me it’s not that hot, then we’re all sweaty and gross. Right. MK thought I must have danced like crazy. I couldn’t tell if I got any exercise or was just too hot.

We warmed up. A lot. It was kind of fun to be able to do all the sit ups and push ups and such, something I wouldn’t have been able to do a while back. But that was enough. Then we stretched, and flexed, and stretched to music… I understand they don’t want you to hurt yourself but maybe it should be your responsibility to limber up a few minutes before you get there. Because, when is the dancing? I got a little worried, it was getting late. You could tell we got rushed on time pretty quickly. We learned an 8 count for about 15 minutes, then one more for 5, and then 16 counts practically walking out the door. I might remember a few moves. Maybe.

Don’t get me wrong, it was fun. It’s been, about.. 12 years since I did any formal dancing classes, which reminded me I’m clumsy! And I can’t catch on as easily as I used to! which all =

I’m getting older.

Ugh.

MW’s friend brought 4 girls so it was like being at home with a workout tape, not all that intimidating, but by the end I gave up trying to look like a hip hop dancer. And realized I haven’t been out to a dance club since Austin. And you lose your ability to shake your money maker. So I either don’t set foot in a club again, or I am going to look like “THAT LADY”. Yikes.
