I heart yoga. I've been doing it off and on for years, but only in the past 3 have I been doing it at least 1x/week. If you find an instructor you like, that's really the best way to go. They can watch your poses and make sure you're not doing anything that's going to cause permanent body wreckage. The whole point of yoga is to be in your moment - an instructor should adhere to that and not make it a competetitive experience. It's the only class where I don't compare my butt size with that of the person next to me.

Oh, and buy your own mat. You're going to thank me for that. The ones at your local mega mart are fine, but the best one I've ever used is the Harmony Jade mat. It's like down dogging in cement. Amazing.

I read somewhere that I should netflix DVDs before purchasing them to make sure I'm not annoyed by the instructor...didn't know you could netflix yoga. I'm learning. But I might be in trouble with 'science'...

Yep, it's true. I'm into the yoga. I had objections to the idea of a class too. So, I booked a one hour private session with an instructor.
The poses are a very small part of a bigger picture, check out Patanjali for more of the science of yoga.
